Over the years this event which started out as a kitesurfing event has blossomed into one of the most looked forward to event in South Africa for multisport enthusiasts and the cream of South African Kitesurfing, Longboarding, and Stand up Paddle Surfing.
Scottburgh beach has proven a major "test" arena for the top exponents of their respective sports and for the many other sportsman that travel from all over South Africa to participate and be a part of the action "Action being the operative word as this venue over the years has thrown all that mother nature has to offer from mediocre blue oceans to hectic winds to massive swells and flooded brown water, topping this with the fact that Scottburgh falls within a marine protected environment and home to the dreaded but misunderstood tiger and ragged tooth sharks the scene has been set over the years for an awesome event, that delivers each time and tests the endurance of all the competitors across the board. in 2009 celebrated springbok surfer and surfing legend Bruce Jackson commented "i never new you could add oil and water but you have succeeded" pointing out the fact that we manage to pull off a result in kitesurfing and longboarding over the same time each year.
There are many reasons why I have created this blog. For those that take the time or are interested in the history of the event and those that have competed, it will become clear.
It is in fact a tool that I intend to create for the many events Nerve Events has created over the last decade.
Firstly it is simply a history of the event which can be viewed by competitors or sponsors alike.
Secondly every year I receive a call or a mail from the media, competitors etc. asking me if I have the results on hand from the previous years or if I knew who won a particular division, this blog will answer that question as all the results will be posted on the site.
Thirdly we have massive talent in the disciplines that are showcased at the carnival and this site can serve as a record for those sportsman seeking personal sponsorships and can thus add this blog to their CV or get access to their results at the push of a button.
Each event starting from 2003 will be individually profiled hereon and as I gather or find more information relating to the event it will be added
It has been an absolute pleasure creating and managing this annual event and as with the hundreds of competitors that enter religiously each year we too look forward to hosting the event and seeing what the ocean will dish up on the day.
Thanks to all the competitors from near and far , to all the many sponsors that have over the years ensured that the event actually happens, to all our service providers, production staff and the South African Media in general, thanks for the great support each year
